It’s a ‘Dear Lizzy’ kinda day……

Hello! I hope everyone is doing well! I know I’m doing better than I thought I’d be doing at this point in time:) For those who know my current situation, I did have my back surgery last Tuesday, and, as my surgeon put it, everything went ‘textbook’:) So, that’s good news and an awesome answer to prayer:)… So, now it’s  just trying to recuperate and get back to baseline – thank goodness I have my hobbies to keep my mind busy:)
Since the weather is improving and spring colors are coming out to play, I thought I’d do a post on one of my all time ‘Springy’ favorites – American Craft’s ‘Dear Lizzy’ Collections! I fell in love with it’s designer, Elizabeth Kartchner, and her new Dear Lizzy – Spring Line when it debuted at 2010 Winter CHA – her display for that show is actually what inspired my current LR decor:) And her new ‘Neapolitian’ that came out with this most recent CHA show in Cali is absolutely gorgeous as well! The colors are soft and bright and cheery – all at the same time! I love this line so much, I’ve almost taken to hoarding it, lol! I’ve used it once so far, on my ‘Family Love’ Layout a while back, but other wise, I almost just want to save it and just bring it out to look at every now and then…:) Weird, I know, but… what can I say? 🙂 I’m a sparkly-paper-hoarding-freak…:)
However, one of my sister-in-law’s birthdays was this past week, and I decided I’d bring out the ‘Neapolitan’ for her… Due to the fact that she’s one of those people that basically emanates sunshine on a regular basis & is overall just a nice person, I deemed her worth for use of the beloved collection…, lol:) So, check out her Birthday Card below….
I liked how it turned out – whimsical and soft, but still bright and cheery:)
And…. since I’m posting about ‘Dear Lizzy’, I thought I’d show the decor I mentioned earlier as well. For the Winter 2010 CHA show, Dear Lizzy set up a display with American Craft’s Booth that I just loved! Here are a couple pics:

I know, right? I Love This!! So, when I found a whole bunch of old picture frames in storage, with a couple more found at thrift sales, I got inspired:) I have a little corner in my LR where my Mac sits on a glass desk up against a light sage colored wall, with all white trim…. Now, I’m a big re-use/re-do craft person for storage containers, so I have a whole bunch of Mod-Podge/Sparkly Paper altered checkbook boxes on my desk, along with other ‘girly’ things, so I thought something like the above display would be an easy and cute ‘dress-up’ for the wall! So, I picked up some white enamel spray after sanding down my old frames and refinished them in shiny white. I then used a couple of Dear Lizzy’s Fabric Sheets, with adhesive backing, that are from her first ‘Spring’ line, and set them in the old frames – cutting and rearranging where needed. Then I hung them up in a random, but balanced, fashion on the one wall! I think they turned out so cute! And super easy and inexpensive! Check out the pics below – I apologize for the less-than-stellar photos! It was hard to get the best lighting when the frames are hanging on my best light-source wall…:)

I think it turned out cute!!
I still have an empty ‘vintage window pane/frame’ I found at an old ‘Barn Sale’ that I’m thinking I may add in my LR somehow too…. I found these 2 ideas for the window frame that I love as well:

….and both use Dear Lizzy! (Click on the individual picture to link up with the original project for each one)
So many adorable ideas…. and so little time…:)
Well, I think that’s all I have for ya’ll tonight…. Plus, my husband just brought me dinner:)
Have a great night & TFL!
God Bless –
~Carrie

A Couple Echo Park Boy’s BDay Cards…..

Howdy! I know it’s been forever since I did a blog post – but I’ve been crazy busy! For those that don’t know, I’m going in for back surgery next week, and I feel like a headless chicken trying to get everything ready 🙂 I almost feel like I’m ‘nesting’, lol! (It also doesn’t help that everything takes me twice as long as normal to get done..:) But, attempting to coordinate 3 boys’ schedules with school events and sports has been harder than I ever thought – hopefully I have everything covered and there won’t be any missed baseball practices or anyone forgotten to be picked up.. 🙂

Since I’ll be pretty incapacitated for the next couple months, I’ve also been trying to get all my projects & birthday cards done for April thru June – I just can’t bring myself to actually send a store bought card:)  I’ve taken pics of everything, so I should be able to post thru out my recovery from my archives…

I’ve also been working on a couple of mini albums, which I’ll post soon. One of them is another Baby Album using LYB ‘Snugglebug’ I made for my sister’s friend that turned out really cute; I also made one using LYB ‘Fresh Print Clothesline’ that made me fall in love with the older collection all over again…:) So, keep an eye out:)

This month also marked my start on the design team with Scrapkit Studio!:) I was thrilled to work on an upcoming mini album with the fabulous ladies over there! If you haven’t already, you HAVE to hop over there to check out the new kits! They’re Delightful! I’m in love with the April Kit; it’s theme is ‘Baby’s First Year’ & it is adorable! The collection used is timeless, so it’d work for new additions…. or catching up on ‘old additions’ like me, lol:) – who still has her 12 year old son’s 1st year scrapbook on her ‘To-Do List’…. 🙂 Anyway, be sure to check it out!

On to a couple cards…..

I’m posting two Echo Park Paper ‘boy’ birthday cards today: The first one I made for my nephew’s 1st birthday using EP ‘Little Boy’; the 2nd one I used EP ‘A Boy’s Life’ and made it for my boys to give their dad for his upcoming birthday.  As the collections’ names suggest, ‘Little Boy’ worked perfect for a younger birthday & ‘A Boy’s Life’ is ideal for teenagers and adults.

The Inside:

Both cards’ cardstock is from Bazzill Basics, with the star pins from Little Yellow Bicycle; I used Epiphany Craft’s Pennant ‘Shape Studio Tool’ to make the banner on the 2nd card and the button used is from October Afternoon.

That’s all I have for you today! TFL and enjoy the rest of your day!

God Bless,

~Carrie

It’s Spring…..!!

Hello, Hello!

I don’t know about you, but up here in MN, IT IS GORGEOUS OUT!! To tell ya the truth, I’m wiggling in my chair just writing this because I want to go back outside! 🙂 It’s seriously over 70 degrees out, which is a heat wave in the Midwest..:) But, at least today’s post is ‘Spring Themed’ & outside-friendly since the Queen of my Craftroom’s Weekly Challenge this week was to make a ‘Spring Altered Project’.

I had a couple different of different ideas for this one – all centralized around an entry-way/front-walkway decoration; I’ve finally taken all my Winter Outside Decor down & replaced it with the pretty pastels of Spring, but I only have a couple items out there so far:) I do, though, have a soft pink/yellow/blue wreath out front, so that kind of served as inspiration for my color combo… but, I still wasn’t sure if I wanted to do a ‘plaque/wall hanging’ or an ‘altered birdhouse’… So, I decided to combine the 2 ideas & do an ‘Altered Birdhouse Wall Hanging’:) I saw this Mini-Birdhouse Trio Hanging at Michael’s & thought it’d fit perfectly with my idea!

The hanging was unfinished wood, so I made sure to sand it down nice & smooth before I did anything to it. In my experience, unfinished wood crafts usually are pretty rugged & won’t take paint well; they also make paper look bumpy & uneven when glued…. So, I’ve found sanding them down as much as you can helps in both of these departments:) After I was finished sanding, I taped off the metal connectors & the ‘tin’ roofs of the birdhouses, and sprayed it down with White Spray Enamel; this was so it’d have a nice white base for the areas that I didn’t cover in paper. I let it dry over night, then brought out my trusty Mod Podge & some Echo Park Paper ‘Springtime’, and went to work!:) This is what I came up with:

The daisies are from Martha Stewart Crafts, as is the butterfly punch; the picket fence and yellow flower are both from my ‘stash’ of ‘no-name-leftover-scraps’, lol, but otherwise, everything else is EP:) Hope you like it.. I think it turned out cute and works perfect for my front walkway:)

If you get a chance, hop over the QomC Blog to see what the other ladies came up with for Springtime Projects!  I’m off to go play outside!!:)

Thanks for stopping by and God Bless!

~Carrie

PS – what do you think of my new blog theme..??.. I’ve been experimenting, but I think I’m going to stick with this one for a while… I think I like the clean, white background & colorful banner..:)

SnuggleBug Baby Album…..

So, I think it’s safe to finally post the Baby Album I recently finished – I made it as a gift & mailed it a few days ago, so I wanted to make sure it had time to arrive before I started splashing around photos of it, thus ruining the element of surprise on it’s receiving end:) I made this album for a friend of mine from high school, who just had his first baby a few days ago – or, I should say, his adorable wife just had their first baby a few days ago:) This little guy was actually not due until mid March, but decided to make his appearance a tad early – February 27th to be exact… and of course, I was project-planning for mid March & had to put a little rush on it when I saw he came early:) I used the boy version of ‘Snugglebug’ by Little Yellow Bicycle, which I absolutely love. I first found it when I made a Baby Printer Tray about a year and a half ago for a dear friend of my husband when he and his wife had their first baby – another boy:) (There must be something in the water, because in the last 2 years we’ve had about 5 friends who have had their first babies and they’ve all had bouncing baby boys!) It was then that I fell in love with the soft pastels mixed with the strong primary colors of the paper & the fun ‘Snugglebugs’:)

Because it was a gift, and because it was made before the little guy was born, I left all the journaling and picture placements blank so they could personalize it the way they wanted:)

(I added a clear-cut frame from the collection between these pages, just to add some variety..)

Here are some close-ups:

I also added a ‘matching’ card – I kept it simple, but cute:) I had found this red ‘furryball-wire’ in the clearance bin at Michaels & had been itching for a chance to use it in this project, but couldn’t really an appropriate place in the album – but I think it worked perfect as a fun, simple banner on the card:)

Products Used:

I really liked how it turned out – perfectly adorable for a baby boy & a personable, cute gift:)

Thanks for looking and enjoy the rest of the week!

God Bless,

~Carrie

Simple Get Well Card….

Hey ~~ Hope everyone had a great weekend!

I know I usually post the Queen of my Craftroom Weekly Challenges on Sundays, but I thought I’d ‘shake’ things up a little & do it today instead:) (that and I was super busy this weekend finishing up my Baby Album that I ‘sneek-peeked’ ya a couple posts ago – apparently the parents that it’s intended for decided to have their baby 3 weeks early, so I had to up the completion deadline… how dare they? :)..I can’t wait to post the final pics – it’s so adorable!)  Anyway, this week’s QomC Challenge is a ‘Get Well’ card and I decided to do a uber-simple card for this one. I’ve been itching to use an aqua/red color combo and found this really cute Doodle Pop ‘Rx Bottle’ embellishment from Doodlebug Designs that fit the bill! So I added it to some Echo Park ‘Little Boy’ and Bazzill Cardstock, and this is what I came up with:

The Bazzill Cardstock is ‘Classic Red’ Classic Cardstock and ‘Salt’ Dotted Swiss Cardstock. The corrugated white paper was something I just happened to find at Michaels & thought it would add dimension to projects – I think it served it’s purpose… 🙂

Anyway, as you can see, it’s a very simple card, but I love the colors & didn’t want to ‘clutter’ it – I wanted the color combo & the Rx embellishment as the focus.

If you can, stop over at the Queen of my Craftroom blog and check out what the other ladies came up with for the challenge! That’s all I have for you folks today – I’m off to run some errands… but I’ll be back later this week to post my LYB Baby Album – just want to make sure it arrives at it’s destination before I show it so they’ll be surprised:)

Thanks for stopping by and God Bless!

Pinterest Inspiration…..

Ok, so I’ll admit it… I’m a HUGE Pinterest Junkie… Possibly to the point of needing intervention… 🙂 But, I can’t help it – I’m addicted to looking at pretty things & the color inspiration serves as my muse:) And since MN seems to be holding onto winter with a vengeance with snow & ice galore, curling up with hot coffee, an old quilt, and my iPhone’s Pinterest App has been a little slice of heaven to me this morning:)

So, today I thought I’d share some if my recent faves that I’m loving… (Maybe they’ll give you some warm & fuzzy inspiration as well)

Dreamy Color Palettes..

Things that are just plain fun, pretty, and whimsical…

Things I want in my house… or backyard…:)

(check out my Pinterest Page for photo credits.. they didn’t want to transfer with the photos…)

How Delicious is all this? I love using color palettes and style photography shoots for ideas with my projects, so I actually have a lot of ‘Bridal’ websites bookmarked since they’re packed with all of the above:) I got completely hooked on these when I was scouring the web for inspiration for my own wedding a couple years ago – which took place at my in-laws in their backyard, which is huge, so it worked:) My mother-in-law & I have similar tastes, so she got my vision of a ‘fun, whimsical backyard picnic’… We have banners, ribbon galore, mismatched tables & chairs, and old quilts for people to picnic on…. I loved it!  (My awesome mom and sis worked their booties off with me since it was total DYI, but I couldn’t have asked for a better result:)… )

here’s a couple pics… 🙂

Cute, huh? Anyway, thanks for stopping by…. I think I’ll spend the rest of afternnon doing some crafting:) It’s a ‘Snow Day’ & all 3 boys are home, so we’ll see how successful I am in that endeavor:)

God Bless,

~Carrie

Dear Lizzy and a Family Layout….

Hello, Hello! Today is Sunday, aka ‘Queen of my Craftroom’s Weekly Challenge’ Day, and I have a fun challenge to show you!  This week’s challenge is a Layout Challenge with a “Family” Theme – which is our first ‘layout’ challenge so far this year!  The prior Design Team Challenges have mainly been cards, with a couple Altered Projects mixed in for variation… and for those who know me, I am not a ‘Layout-Girl’… oh no, I am not one of scrapbookers that actually ‘Scrapbook’ in the true definition of the word. In fact, I’m going to be quite honest with you, this is my first true layout that I’ve done for myself:)  Again, it’s not because I like cards, mini albums, or altered projects better – it’s because I mainly craft to make things for others; and the things that I make them, I like for them to be able to put out and display…  if that makes sense..??.. However, since this week’s challenge was for a layout, I had to suck it up & create outside my box… and, surprise, surprise – I found I really enjoyed doing the layout!  (Now I’m just going to have to invest in some 12×12 shadow boxes so I can display my layouts, instead of stuffing them in a book on a shelf somewhere.. 🙂 )

Anyway, when I thought of what photos to use for this challenge, the first one that came to mind was a picture someone had taken at the end of my husband’s and my wedding; it was taken when we, with both our kids together, let loose a big bundle of balloons, with the symbolism of us all joining together as a family.  As I know I’ve stated before, I am much more a fan of candid photos, than posed; I like seeing real life in a picture, not a practiced smile – I think it says more…. So, when someone gave me this print, I fell in love with it, but haven’t had a chance to use it until now:)

So, here is my take on the Family Layout Challenge:

(note: I did ‘Instagram’ edit the photos a bit – in fact, the reason I used both is that I couldn’t decide which edit I liked better..)

Products Used:

  • Bazzill Cardstock in ‘Avalanche’
  • Epoxy Pennants were made with Epiphany Craft’s Shape Studio ‘Pennant’ Shape Maker using ‘Neapolitan’ Paper  (this is easily my new favorite tool… Love It!)

I loved how the layout turned out – I think I’m actually going to submit it for 2 Peas in a Bucket’s ‘Dear Lizzy’ Challenge that’s currently open & use this layout to hit 2 birds with 1 stone:)  (You should go check ‘Dear Lizzy‘ out – the paper line is Yummy!)

Well, thanks for stopping by – be sure to hop over to Queen of my Craftroom and see what the other ladies have been up to this week:)

Here’s a little peek on what I’m working on now:

Adorable, right? One of my good friend’s wife is pregnant with their first & making Baby Gifts is definitely my favorite:) They turn out so cute! Almost makes me want another baby…  Almost…:)

Oh, and as a side note – My boys and I did finish their Echo Park ‘A Boys Life’ Brown PaperBag Mini Albums, but the weather’s been so icky up here in MN, that I have not been able to get a good ‘light’ day to take photos of them… and I refuse to shoot in artificial light – my projects never look right unless they’re shot in sunlight! Rule #1 of Art Photography:)

Enjoy the rest of the evening & God Bless

Some Sparkle and Bling…

It’s time for another Queen of my Craftroom Challenge: Bling. Bling, and more Bling! Well, actually it went more like this: ‘Card Challenge – Must have Bling, Ribbon, and Stickles!’, but I’m focusing on the Bling🙂

I originally made this card for the above challenge, but then decided that it’d be a little late in the month for MORE Valentine’s Day Cards, so I ended up adding it to my previous post about V-Day Cards… So, that meant I needed to come up with another card.

I had recently purchased a whole bunch of 6×6 Fancy Pants paper pads from ScrapbookSteals.com for $2.99 – which is an Incredible deal! One of the paper pads I bought was ‘Beach Babe‘, which is so bright and fun that I knew some ‘bling’ would compliment it nicely:)

Here’s what I came up with ~

There’s glitter and sparkle everywhere – on the letters, the flowers… Fun, right? The rhinestones & flowers both are things I had in my ‘Embellishment Scrap Bucket’ – which is where I put all scrap things that have lost their original packaging, or stickers that have lost their backing, etc…. so, unfortunately, I’m not sure the make & model of either of them…  The paper, of course, is Fancy Pants ‘Beach Babe’, and the cute ‘Sunny’ Flag is part of the ‘Vacation’ trio in Bella Blvd’s new flag collections.. (one of my Giveaway presents:)!)  I used common hemp twine for wrapping at the top of the card.

I love how it turned out… I struggled a little on what ‘sentiment’ to use.. like, ‘Hello’, ‘Just Because’..etc… But, in the end, I simply went with ‘Hi’. I figured with all the bling, glitter and sparkle, the card might get too ‘busy’ with a complicated sentiment.. 🙂  Be sure to head over to Queen of my Craftroom’s Blog to check out what kind of ‘Sparkly Stuff’ the other ladies came up with – or to show off your own spin of the challenge:)

I’m off for another quiet day with my husband… and possible a little more crafting.. I’ve been working on 2 ‘Brown Paper Lunch Bag’ albums for my 2 boys, which I think I mentioned a while back:) But, Echo Park is having a challenge for projects using their new ‘A Boy’s Life’ collection on their Facebook page, so I figured that’s the perfect motivator to finish up these albums. I’ve never done a ‘Paper Bag’ album, but I think they’re turning out pretty cute… The boys are helping with them as well – picking out what-goes-where, what pics to use, what paper should go together, etc…. so I guess it’s not completely MY project, now is it? 😉 Here’s a little sneak peak of where we’re at:

I think I lined the bags up wrong – I think they’re supposed to be folded in half, then stacked one on top of another, then attached together – instead of laid out flat on top of each other, and then folded…. But, oh well! Either way, they’re adorable… and I’ll know for next time 🙂 The challenge’s deadline is tomorrow, so I should have pictures of the finished products for you early next week… Nothing like a little competition to get my creative juices flowing 😉

Hope you enjoy the rest of your weekend, and thanks for stopping by!

God Bless,

~Carrie

My awesome week… and a couple cards….

Hello! Hope everyone’s weekend is going well… So far mine has been quiet.. which is usually the case when all the kids are gone:) However, the peacefulness allows for some uninterrupted crafting – which is a beautiful thing… Last night I literally brought what I was working on into the living room, spread out over the middle of the floor, turned on a ‘Chick Flick’, and went to town on some cards while I munched on Pita Chips and drank a Coke:) I was completely in my Happy Place:)

This week was unusually, fabulously eventful, so I thought I’d share some of my week’s awesomeness, as well as some cards I finished up last night:)

First Item of Awesomeness: October Afternoon featured my ‘Grandparents Mini-Album‘ on their blog!!!! I know, right? OA will occasionally post a fan’s project from their Flickr gallery  that they find remarkable and feature it on their ‘Flickr Wednesday’ blog post… and they picked mine! Needless to say, I was completely stoked:) (You can check out the post ‘here‘.) Considering how much I adore OA and their designers, to me, it was an amazing honor..:) It went right up there with getting one of my cards published…:)

On to the Second Item of Awesomeness: due to the exposure of the First Item of Awesomeness, I was contacted by the fabulous owner of Scrapkit Studio to work with them on designing upcoming kits for their phenomenal mini-albums! If I was able to do the happy dance without hurting something or someone, I would of:) If you haven’t been over to their site to check them out, you have to – you will drool over the incredible mini-albums that these fantastic ladies come up with! Click ‘here‘ for Scrapkit Studio’s Site and ‘here‘ for their blog.

And, lastly, the Third Item of Awesomeness: I won one of Creating Keepsake’s Blog Giveaways! Now, I am one of those people that just doesn’t randomly win stuff very often, so this was a big deal to me… It was one of those ‘Comment on this blog post and you’ll be entered into a drawing for a giveaway..’, so I figured ‘What the heck?’… and I won:) The crazy thing is, it was for 2012 CHA trends, so the prize package that came a few days later literally was jammed full of brand new product – some of which wasn’t even released in stores yet! And when I say ‘jammed full’, I mean JAMMED full – there was well over $100 worth of stuff in there – 3 6×6 paper pads from Doodlebug, Webster Pages, & Studio Calico, tons of embellishments from LYB, AC, Studio Calico, Jillibean, etc, canvas pennant album, Bella Blvd Flag Sticks, ….. on and on…. It was unbelievable! My favorite product though, by far, was an Epiphany Crafts Pennant Shape Studio Tool… This thing rocks!  You can literally make epoxy pennant/banner shapes out of any paper you choose with one little click! I was in heaven! So, I’ll definatly be showcasing a lot of these prize-products in upcoming projects!

Anyway, on to some cards….

The 1st card I made is a Birthday Card I made for my sister-in-law using Webster Pages’ ‘Sunday Picnic’, which is an absolutely adorable new line that they released during this past winter’s CHA convention.

I made a simple accordion flower with a pearl center on the bottom for an added embellishment, and then added a couple kites from Martha Stewart Craft’s Line (after switching out their navy colored lines for a more neutral, beige-colored baker’s twine). I distressed the edges of most of the pieces with a variety of Tim Holtz’s Distress Inks – just to make the color pop a little more:) I love the whimsical feeling it ended up with, which I think is the whole theme of ‘Sunday Picnic’…. It fits my sister-in-law’s personality to a ‘T’:)

The next 2 are using one of my all time favorites, Echo Park🙂 I wanted to make a couple ‘Spring’ themed cards, since the never-ending Minnesota Winter is starting to get to me….. I need some sunshine!  Of course, EP’s ‘Springtime’ collection worked perfect for this:)

Both very simple, very easy cards. I used some Doodlebug ‘Bubblegum’ Twine on both to add some fun and texture. I think they turned out bright and colorful – sure to bring a smile to whomever I decide to send them to:)

Well, that’s all I have for you now… Go and enjoy the rest of your weekend:)  I’m off for pizza and a movie with my Hubby:)

I’ll be back tomorrow with Queen of My Craftroom‘s Weekly Challenge – this week is ‘All about the Bling!’ Here’s a little sneak peek of what I have in store for you:

Thanks for stopping by & God Bless!

Valentine’s Day Cards………….

Happy Valentine’s Day!

I thought I’d better share the rest of my Valentine’s Day Cards today, or else I wouldn’t get the chance again until next February 14th🙂  I kind of have a hodgepodge of different cards to share – there’s some Little Yellow Bicycle, a couple Echo Park, and I think there’s a Doodlebug one in there, too! Hope you enjoy them – and I also hope you have a great {heart} day with your loved ones!

The 1st card I made, I used Echo Park‘s Country Drive and Summer Days; the embellishment is Doodlebug Design’s ‘Doodle-Pops – Kaleidoscope’. Pretty simple, but fun – I love the bright colors and the fun ‘Doodle-Pop’:)

The next 2 are cards I made, I used Little Yellow Bicycle’s ‘Sweet Love’ & some ‘bling’ I had lying around my craft room….

The last cards I’m posting today are some Valentine’s Day Cards I made for a Card Swap using Echo Park’s ‘Playground’.  I was going to wait to post them because they’re just now being sent out by the swap coordinator, but, like I said before, today is kinda the last day for V-Day Cards…:)

I used twine from The Twinery & a variety of mini-alphas from Echo Park and October Afternoon…

(I had to make 10 cards and each sheet of alphas I had only housed 2 Xs and 3 Os, so I ran out quickly – hence the different colors;)

The Heart Mini-Clothespins are just something I found at Michaels… cute, huh?

Enjoy your day & thanks for stopping by!
